How to log meals in plain text
Write it the way you would tell someone what you ate. Start with the food. Add amounts and brands when you know them.
A useful first entry
Chicken sandwich on two slices of sourdough, one slice of cheddar, mayo, and an apple.
This names the main foods and gives a little portion detail. If you do not know the chicken weight or amount of mayo, Nibb makes an estimate. You can change it later.
Add details that change the estimate
- Amount: one cup, half a package, two slices, or 150 grams.
- Brand or restaurant: the product name helps match a label.
- Preparation: grilled, fried, cooked in butter, or served with sauce.
- Time: say “for breakfast” or “yesterday” if it was not just now.
You do not need to fill every field. If you know a label's calories, include them directly.
Log more than one meal
For breakfast I had yogurt with a banana. Lunch was a chicken wrap and chips. At about 4 I had a latte.
Nibb can split this into meals and use approximate times where you have not supplied them. Open the Log to check the result. Drag a meal to change its time, or open it for more detail.
Correct without starting over
In that chicken sandwich, I only had half the bread and no mayo.
Name the meal when there could be more than one match. You can also open the meal and edit its items, weights, or calories directly. A correction changes the saved log; it does not require you to re-enter every ingredient.
Do not make up precision
“A medium bowl” is better than an invented weight. Treat the result as an estimate until you have a label or a measured portion. See the homemade meal guide for recipes and shared portions.
